Over the decades of rock`n`roll history there have many supergroups to be spawned from the fractured remains of many great bands. Often hugely anticipated and featuring legends of the time, many of these so called `supergroups` failed to deliver, but there were some who actually rose above the bland, `let`s do it for one more world tour` attitude of some of these artists and created some music that was actually worth listening to. Check the videos below for some of these bands.
They weren’t all perfect. Velvet Revolver for instance wrote a great first record, but the second album was really mediocre. Chickenfoot are pretty crap, but they have moments of awesomeness courtesy of Joe Satriani`s guitar riffs and leads, and even A Perfect Circle, who are probably my favourite supergroup of all time, did the covers album that was good but just not quite up to the standard of their early stuff.
Love `em or hate `em supergroups will always be formed and many will wilt pretty quickly but some like Cream will stand the test of time, and change rock music for the better.
What makes a supergroup?
Well, our definition is that the supergroup must:
- Be formed from members of bands who were in other awesome bands before the supergroup was formed
- Contain at least three members in the band
- Must have released at least one album.
