As I mentioned last week, I’m in the process of making some tweaks to the Dan Thorpe Acoustic Academy.
All the good stuff is staying, but the academy has now got bigger and better.
I’ll mention more of the tweaks soon, but today I’m excited to announce the ‘5 Song Club’ Award.
The ‘5 Song Club’ works like this…
The first big goal I give to all my students is to learn 5 songs from start to finish.
Everyone should aim to achieve this goal.
In my experience, the guitarists that achieve this goal get more joy from the instrument, are far more likely to practise daily, and are 10x more likely to play for the rest of their days.
For most guitarists, being able to play songs is the engine that drives your guitar-playing car.
There are not many better feelings than being able to play songs you love listening to and playing them to a high standard.
All those hours of practice become much more worthwhile…
You’ll savour those quiet moments to yourself with just you and your guitar.
And if you want to occasionally impress a loved one, you can.
Of course, if you want to perform to others at open mics, church, in bands, or at a BBQ on a summer’s day, then playing recognisable songs will get you there.
To help my students reach this goal faster, I’ve created the ‘5 Song Club’ Award.
The ‘5 Song Club’ will motivate you, give you a clear goal, and when you achieve this goal, you will get a huge sense of achievement.
Just like the many students in my studio over the years, once you achieve this goal, you’ll really begin to flourish.
The songs can be simple, and you don’t have to play them like Clapton.
As long as you can play the songs competently, that is what matters.
Riffs, fingerpicking, strumming, or solo fingerstyle are all allowed – basically, any style of song you like.
If you can already play five songs, celebrate it.
If you’re not quite there, keep going, learn five songs, and celebrate it when you can.
Whichever camp you fall into, this will help give you all the motivation to get you there…
