In a moment, you will see your weekly 10-second tip, but first…

Today I got moaned at by a reader for releasing the new paperback of The Ultimate Guide to Strumming soon after doing an offer on The Fingerstyle Collection course.

Well, as I explained in yesterday’s email, and like I said to this fella…

“This book has been a looooong time coming, there have been a few things I needed to change, people have waited ages for it already, and holding off releasing the book a few more weeks is going to achieve nothing for no one.

I would love to have released it a few weeks ago, but I wanted to film some bonuses to go with it as a thank you for anyone who gets it and only this week have I been well enough to do that. You can, of course, unsubscribe from my emails anytime.”

Well, in truth, I could have filmed the bonuses a few weeks ago, but it would be like getting a video lesson from a zombie extra in The Walking Dead, haha).

Anyway, I thought I would share that with you (was he right, was he wrong?)

…Either way, here is your Friday 10-second tip, and yep, you guessed it, it’s on strumming and a cool technique called…

“Pick strumming”

This is a technique where you:

  • Strum a chord and…
  • As you do so, you pick a string or two individually.

When done to a good standard, this technique sounds rhythmic, musically rich, and very melodic.

The easiest way I find students can get started with this technique is to take a strumming pattern you know really well, and…

Swap one of the strums in the pattern for a pick of a string (the B string often works well).

Once you get good at that, you can swap between strumming and picking at will.

The key though, is this…

Start with an actual strumming pattern you know already and swap ONE strum for a pluck – all while keeping the rhythm of the strumming pattern intact.

Is it hard?

It can be but stick with it. The technique is good fun.

Enjoy your Friday!
