Welcome to a new weekly 10-second tip.
Today we are talking about one of my favourite things to do.
It is all about:
Using the high E string to its full potential
Let me ask, do you know how to play a scale only on the high E string?
If not, you should, because you can do loads of fun things on this string.
Little melodies, licks, solos, and one of my favourite things, playing fingerstyle arrangements.
The beauty of playing and staying on one string is that you are less likely to make picking hand errors (students often make more picking hand mistakes when changing strings).
Yesterday, I filmed a very cool lesson using this concept.
It is used in a solo fingerstyle version of “Wayfaring Stranger” – a wonderful song recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash, Ed Sheeran, Eva Cassidy, and many more…
Take a listen to it below (it’s a short snippet but will give you a good idea of this concept in use) and if you want to learn it, you can in the Dan Thorpe Acoustic Academy.
Listen to “Wayfaring Stranger”
It is one of the very cool new lessons to be released on February 1st.
Whether you join or not, it is definitely worth trying this little one-string scale idea on the high E string.
Enjoy your Friday!

Guitar Domination
P.S. On the 1st, there will be other lessons released too, including how to unlock the fretboard using the “Big Cycle” (which I mentioned yesterday), and a fun new two-minute challenge inspired by fingerstyle blues, which I’ll be developing further soon.
P.P.S. This post was originally taken from Dan Thorpe’s private email list. To get blog posts like this sent to you which are full of great tips to make fingerpicking, strumming, and learning guitar more enjoyable (especially if you are over 40) join Dan’s list. It’s 100% free, HERE.
