Here is another Friday 10-second tip for you to enjoy…
This is all about…
The “Finger Shuffle”
A lot of people ask me about how to improve their dexterity.
Well, this is something that takes time to develop, and you have to be careful when trying to do so.
That’s because a lot of people are trained (usually inadvertently) to use bad technique on the guitar.
So, if you struggle to move your fingers independently of each other AND…
You press the strings using too much pressure and tension, it will be a big struggle to improve your dexterity.
…But worse, you can cause yourself an injury.
If you do have good technique and you stay relaxed, then exercises such as the “finger shuffle” will help though.
It’s a simple exercise, and it’s one you can do pretty much anytime.
That’s because it’s a “silent exercise” which doesn’t require you to pluck any strings.
You simply place all your fingers on a string with one finger per fret.
E.g., place your fretting hand fingers on frets 9,10,11,12.
Then, you “shuffle” your index finger from fret 9 to fret 8 while keeping the other fingers where they are.
You can do the same with the pinkie, moving it up to fret 13.
That’s the basics of it.
It’s a really simple exercise but one that must be done with precision and good “Core Fundamental Technique”.
Do it right and it will help improve your finger control (which is half the battle) and give you better dexterity for all your playing.
Give it a go today.
I must say though, the main thing to take away from this tip is to be careful anytime you do any sort of technical exercise.
…Because when they’re done well, they’re beneficial, but done badly they can cause more harm than good.
Saying that, if you want to get my new lesson on the “Finger Shuffle”
…Including exactly how to play it with proper technique, the single most important thing to avoid, and how it will help you improve your songs and all your playing.
…Then, I cover all the details in a new Dan Thorpe Acoustic Academy lesson out tomorrow.
Just a polite heads-up…
The deadline to join to get this and the other new lesson is tomorrow at midnight.
