As I wake up and start brewing my coffee first thing in the morning, I like to ask my Alexa to tell me the “Question of the day” which is a bit of random trivia (I do love a quiz). It is fun, and it usually has a few fun bonus questions too. In a similar format, I thought I’d ask you some questions today, a little guitar quiz.

Here we go…

What notes on the high E string are on frets 5, 8, 12?

What roman numerals make up the three chords in a standard 12-bar blues?

How many beats are there in a bar in standard time?

What are the 3 Major chords in the key of G?

Who wrote The Monkees hit, “I’m a Believer”?

Which guitarist had a crazy five-neck guitar made for him?

Which of these legends of guitar and folk was born first – Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, or James Taylor?

Scroll down to the bottom of this email and you will find the answers to the guitar quiz in the P.S.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Quizzes are a great way to learn and have fun.

The best teachers out there ask their students lots of questions.

Why?

Because it gets the students engaged and ensures they are following and processing the information.

Without questions and testing, it is hard for teachers and students to measure progress and know that what they are doing is actually working.

If you have a teacher, ask them to write out some quizzes for you or ask them to challenge you more if they don’t already.

My students love this sort of thing, and a one-to-one lesson usually features me asking the student dozens of fun questions for these reasons.

The above questions in this mini guitar quiz are a mix of practical stuff for learning guitar mixed with a few fun, trivia type questions (after all, you should be having fun too).

If you don’t have a teacher and want to be tested more, then check out my membership programme.

One of the multiple features is the “Quiz” section (with new quizzes being added all the time), where I test you on the fretboard, ear training, and more…
