Welcome to the Guitar Domination “Fingerpicking Classics Series”.

‘Falling Slowly’ is a great song from the film ‘Once’ by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

There isn’t a sweeter sound in the history of the universe than a beautiful fingerpicked song played well.

I just love how sweet the lyrics are too – so much so I have written them out below.

Have fun and prepare to be loved when you perform this amazing song!

Falling Slowly Chords

C, Cadd9, F, Fadd9

Am, G, F, G,

C, F, Am, F

Falling Slowly Lyrics

I don’t know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can’t react
And games that never amount
To more than they’re meant
Will play themselves out

[Chorus]

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You’ll make it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can’t go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I’m painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It’s time that you won

[Chorus]

Falling slowly sing your melody
I’ll sing along

Fingerpicking Classics Series: Ed Sheeran – Tenerife Sea

Wow, what a modern classic this is. I love the guitar part to this. That intro is very lush, distinctive and down right groovy.

The song is tuned (from low to high) E,A,D,E,B,E which is a little unusual but just goes to show how Ed Sheeran thinks outside the box with his sophisticated guitar playing.

The chords are relatively simple due to the tuning of the song, but if you are like most players who are learning this you may want a little more help getting faster chord changes.

One thing that crops up time again from students everywhere is the dreaded issue of chord changes. I spend a lot of time in the early stages with my private students helping them get past this hugely frustrating part of playing the guitar, and I answer quite a few emails on this subject too.
